“Working with Neck problems and injuries...

one muscle at a time”

May 23rd in Verona, VA

Pre-requisite: Previous joint/clay workshop with Taum or 'The Back' class.

This 6 hr workshop includes an overview of this distinctive bodywork system and usable techniques for addressing various muscular components in Neck issues.

The Neck class includes both a regional and a specific in-depth precision focus on the appropriate anatomy. We begin with each student building a clay model of two vertebrae in order to clearly feel the tactile 'road map'.

Specific techniques will then be presented, practiced, and reviewed to stretch, correct and manipulate targeted muscles

This unique curriculum includes state of the art anatomy presentations that incorporate Power Point. For example, when I am guiding a classroom of students thru corrective massage techniques that address scalene tensions, distortions and adhesions, I project a life size anatomy graphic which serves as a very useful visual reference. So while you are working on the medial scalene, you have a nearby visual aid. This combination helps speed the development of your 'tactile vision'.

Possibly one of Lauren Berry's greatest contributions to Massage Therapy was in recognizing that muscles, tendons and ligaments have an optimal anatomical position and can be shifted off position via trauma, adaptation, etc.

Through recognizing, respecting and responding to that functional organization, therapists can often reduce tension and pain rather quickly.

Be ready to take home more tools for your tactile 'toolbox'.

Soft tissue to be explored includes:

      • Scalene's

      • Iliocostalis Cervicis

      • Splenius Cervicis

      • Trapezius

      • Sternocleidomastoid

      • Occipitalis

      • Levator Scapula

      • 1st rib attachments
Technique and protocol 'hands on' practice includes:
      • repositioning misplaced muscles, tendons and ligaments

      • releasing adhesions within soft tissue structures and layers

      • correcting soft tissue distortion

      • recognizing and addressing adaptive compensation

      • addressing trigger points

Consider...

The scope of massage includes addressing and improving muscular issues throughout the body.

According to the Center for Disease Control, in the year 2000, more visits to physicians’ offices were made for musculoskeletal conditions than for any other reason.

We offer education and training for therapist who seek a deeper understanding of the muscular component within musculoskeletal situations.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), repetitive strain injuries are the nation's most common and costly occupational health problem, affecting hundreds of thousands of American workers, and costing more than $20 billion a year in workers compensation.

This class will incorporate both a regional and a specific in-depth precision focus on soft tissue components contributing to the 'end product' often labeled 'Arthritis'. If you are interested in a bodywork system that respects the muscular components of the body and views them as often being the #1 factor in health problems, then you should find this class quite rewarding. There will be lots of hands-on practice and demo!
