This unique curriculum includes state
of the art anatomy presentations that incorporate Power
Point. For example, when I am guiding a classroom of students
thru corrective massage techniques that address mid thoracic
tensions, distortions and adhesions, I project a life size
anatomy graphic which serves as a very useful visual reference.
So while you are working on the iliocostalis thoracis, you
have a good visual aid. This combination helps speed the
development of your 'tactile vision'.Possibly one of Lauren
Berry's greatest contributions to Massage Therapy was in
recognizing that muscles, tendons and ligaments have an
optimal anatomical position and can be shifted off position
via trauma, adaptation, etc.Through recognizing, respecting
and responding to that functional organization, therapists
can often reduce tension and pain rather quickly.
Expected outcomes for participants
include:
A better understanding of The Berry Method®
of Corrective Massage and its principles of associating
anatomy with the principles of Structural Engineering.
A greater ability to locate and palpate specific
soft tissue.
Enhancement of skills in recognizing and understanding
via visual - palpation assessment and clients description
of concerns, the tissue adhesions/distortions within
the muscle, tendon or ligament and that involvement
in dysfunction and pain.
Enrichment of proficiency in appropriate application
of massage technique for correcting soft tissue dysfunction
to encourage restoration of pain free function in
joint movement.
A clearer comprehension of the applicable relationships
within trigger points and the GTO.
Ability to demonstrate advanced corrective massage
techniques using accurate contact, depth, and direction.

Taum's category "A" classes
present unique insights into the human bodies natural
built-in maintenance, recovery, and health management
abilities with respect to the muscular influences. Taum's
25+ years of practical experience includes working on
members of The SF 49ers, the US Ski team and regular
folks just wanting their pain to disappear. Combining
his practical experience with modern Power Point presentations
creates an unparalleled learning environment.
Contemplate the amazing functions of
the human body: camera eyes, radio ears, valves, tubes,
pulleys, hinges, arches, temperature control, chemical
laboratories, a continual repair system, a telegraphic
nervous system, a structural and mobile frame, storage
space, sewage disposal, pipelines, filters and pumps.
Such is the mechanism of the body, and what is more
----- its works!!
Within each of these functions are muscular components, components that
when mired in adhesion and distortion can create untold
tension. When adhesions and distortions are reduced
within the soft tissue layers via corrective massage,
the body is more able to perform its continual repair
and maintenance duties and function without the hindrance
of muscular tension---it works better!!!
Your tactile abilities
allow you to feel that tension within the muscle tissue.
Do you understand the
variety of components and tissue relationships that
contribute to that tension?
Do you know how to recognize
and correct the adhesions and distortions that can be
the primary factors in that dysfunctional body part?
Do you have adequate
techniques in your tactile toolbox?
Should you wish to reply
with a solid YES...the following classes can aid you
in your ongoing pursuit of knowledge.
Facilities where courses are held are handicap accessible.
When a student calls and identifies himself or herself
as disabled, instructor/sponsor will discuss their needs
and how to best accommodate them in the classroom. Student
must give instructor/sponsor notification of special
needs prior to the beginning of the class allowing adequate
time for reasonable allowances to be made. Allowances
for special needs will be met as long as they do not
impose an "undue burden" on the instructor
as listed in the ADA.
I do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion,
sex or national origin.
According to one student,
this technique has become her deep tissue technique
and she now "Works smarter, not harder".

The Berry Method® is termed corrective as the intention
is to directly address and correct the numerous MUSCULAR
components within the tensions and adaptive compensations
that are often associated with pain, physical trauma,
postural distortions, etc. A variety of physical disorders
are characterized by a distortion within skeletal muscles. This
is often a primary contributing factor in many muscular/skeletal
problems.
PAIN...
Obviously, pain directly affects physical
health and performance. Pain can also serve as an important
indication of how the muscles are currently functioning
and provide the educated and aware therapist an indicator
of the protocols required to reduce those pains. Any
pain can decrease efficiency of movement and create
undesirable injuries and compensations. The physical-muscular
adaptations created as a result of pain can trigger
more pain and other injuries far away from the site
of the original problem. When something hurts, consider
that as an important message....one that should be respected
and corrected ASAP!!!
Listen....pay
attention....
Imagine the ability of the tissue to
function in the following illustrations....
Healthy muscle tissue....the are no obstructions to
contraction and relaxation.
UN-healthy muscle tissue ...consider any muscular/skeletal
problem, chances are there is some degree of muscle
problems associated with an inability to fully contract
ands relax due to adhesion and distortion. These classes
address the specific distortions often associated with
the topic of focus....Back, knee, elbow, shoulder, wrist,
TMJ....
It is assumed that health, structure and function are
synergistically related. Thus any improvement towards
correcting the body’s ongoing muscular balancing
act within gravity will improve the bodies overall functioning
and health. The primary goal is not to "heal"
the body as much as it is to quickly reduce soft tissue
imbalances, thus encouraging the body to use its incredible
innate abilities to nourish, maintain and heal itself.
These NCBTMB CEU "Category A" classes
merge precision deep tissue massage techniques with
specific anatomy & physiology
enabling therapists to quickly and efficiently utilize
this knowledge.
The classes at Muscle Management strive to promote
higher levels of learning. We aim to combine the application
of our technique along with analysis and synthesis of
anatomy knowledge as it directly applies to massage,
effectively raising the bar for massage learning objectives.
As a student progress through the sequence they begin
to gather a greater appreciation for the 'inter-connectedness'
of the body...for
example how carpal tunnel symptoms can often be successfully
addressed by including specific elbow massage or that
ankle issues can be traced to distortions around the
knee. (see Nose
Ring)
These classes will familiarize students with the soft
tissue concerns associated with problems presented by
our clientele and the appropriate procedures to address
and reduce those concerns.
Muscle manipulation and deep tissue procedures presented
will include....
releasing adhesions within soft
tissue structures and layers
mobilizing some of the bodies
deepest tissue
correcting soft tissue distortion
accessing and encouraging the
bodies' repair mechanisms
recognizing adaptive compensation
Classes are structured so therapist's
are enabled to better understand pain signals and incorporate
these incredibly effective soft tissue manipulation
procedures immediately into their present system of
massage and bodywork. Consider them as new tools for
your "tactile
toolbox".There will be lots of hands on practice!
